Lupang Hinirang - March Version
About this Song
Folk music, as a global category of creative expression centered on the lived experiences, cultural norms, and collective bonds of specific communities, finds a deeply resonant home in the Philippines, where the form has evolved to hold space for every type of communal gathering, public observance, and intimate cultural moment that shapes life across the archipelago. Unlike many other forms of creative sound that prioritize individual expression or mass commercial appeal, folk music in the Philippine context carries forward traditions that have been passed between groups and across generations, adapting to new contexts and structural frameworks while retaining the core connection to place and people that defines the genre at its root.
