About this Song
Rock and roll’s steady spread across Southeast Asia throughout the second half of the 20th century reshaped local music ecosystems across the region, and nowhere did that shift take root as deeply as in the Philippines, where the genre’s core, unapologetic energy aligned with longstanding local traditions of communal, high-spirited musical performance, turning a sound first popularized in midwestern American cities into a vehicle for distinctly Filipino creative expression.
