About this Song
Music/Mix, a genre framework built to hold sound work that transcends the boundaries of more narrowly defined categorical labels, finds a natural home in the creative ecosystem of the Philippines, where KYGM exists as a sound rooted in that nation’s long tradition of cross-cultural creative reinvention. Unlike genre labels that seek to box sound work into a single set of expected traits, Music/Mix centers the inherent fluidity of creative practice, a fluidity that has long defined creative output from the Philippines, an archipelagic nation made up of thousands of islands that have been a site of sustained cultural exchange for centuries, leading to creative communities that regularly blend, rework, and reimagine sonic traditions from across their own local contexts and beyond.
