About this Song
Honest, the title of this hip-pop sound originating from the Philippines, carries a weight that shapes every layer of the work it names, framing a creative piece that exists within the long, vibrant lineage of Filipino hip-pop, a genre that occupies a unique space in the global landscape of contemporary popular music that draws equally from the rhythmic and lyrical foundations of hip-hop and the melodic, accessible core of pop, a fusion that has allowed creators across the Philippines to reach both local audiences rooted in the archipelago’s distinct cultural contexts and global listeners who connect with the nuanced, specific energy of Filipino creative practice.
