Born and raised in Davao City, Filipino singer and songwriter Kyle Raphael Borbon began writing songs at 15, following the example of his songwriter father. After earning a psychology degree, his music career started in earnest in 2018 when he won the grand prize at Himig Handog for his composition "Sa Mga Bituin Na Lang Ibubulong." This success led to a contract with Viva Records, where he initially focused on writing for other artists. His own singles began appearing in 2019 with "Dahil Kailangan Kita" and "Buwan ng Mayo," the latter earning him an Awit Award for Best Performance by a New Male Recording Artist. Kyle Raphael cites a diverse range of influences, from international artists like Paul Anka and Elvis Presley to local bands such as Hale and Orange and Lemons. His sound has evolved from ballads and jazz to a softer, mellow acoustic style, particularly evident after the release of "Libu-Libong Buwan (Uuwian).
