The Filipino rock band Silent Sanctuary formed in Metro Manila in 2001, with founding members Norman Dellosa, Paolo Legaspi, and Allen Calixto. Cellist Anjo Inacay joined to help incorporate classical instruments into the band's sound, a blend of rock and classical they call "Rockestra." Violinist Chino David and violist Jett Ramirez also became formal members in 2002 after guesting with the band. In 2004, the band released their independently produced album *Ellipsis of the Mind*, and later that year, Norman Dellosa was succeeded by Sarkie Sarangay as vocalist. After the release of their debut single "Rebound," Jett Ramirez departed, and Jason Rondero became the new bassist. Silent Sanctuary gained a cult following with their 2007 album *Fuchsiang Pag-ibig*, which features the popular OPM song "Kundiman." This love song expresses deep devotion to a romantic partner, comparing them to comforting things like sugar, paint, a pillow, and a blanket.
