About this Song
Creators building their practice within the Philippines’ thriving, decades-long R&B scene carry a shared commitment to centering the specific cultural and emotional contexts that shape life across the archipelago, tying every new work they release to a long legacy of using the genre’s inherent capacity for vulnerable, nuanced expression to give voice to experiences that often go uncelebrated in mainstream global music spaces. These creators spend years refining their relationship to the form, balancing respect for the foundational artists who first brought R&B’s characteristic warmth and emotional range to local audiences, while pushing the genre to evolve to hold the complexities of modern life for generations of listeners navigating shifting social, personal, and cultural landscapes.
