About this Song
The Philippines’ sustained engagement with R&B as a creative form has fostered a robust, interconnected community of creators working across the archipelago to build iterations of the genre that carry the core identity of R&B while rooting their work in the specific contexts that shape creative production in the country. Ribbon in the Sky emerges from this landscape, categorized as a Filipino R&B sound that fits within the broader lineage of creators from the region who have taken up R&B as a vehicle for their creative practice, aligned with the regional music note framing used to contextualize this work, which exists to elevate sounds that originate from underrepresented creative markets, centering their geographic and genre placement to bring greater visibility to creators working outside of the industry’s dominant commercial hubs.
