About this Song
Long before the current wave of Filipino R&B sounds found widespread global traction, creators in the archipelago were shaping the genre to fit their own expressive needs, weaving in unspoken cultural nuances that turned imported structural foundations into something entirely their own. This lineage of reclamation and reimagination stretches across decades, with each new generation of creators building on the work of those who came before them, adding layers of emotional depth and formal experimentation that keep the genre fresh and relevant for audiences at home and far beyond the Philippines’ borders. Each sound that emerges from this ecosystem carries the weight of that lineage, even as it pushes the genre in new directions that challenge assumptions about what R&B can be, who it can center, and what it can communicate to listeners who bring their own unique perspectives to every encounter with a new work.
