About this Song
For decades, rock and roll practitioners in the Philippines have cultivated a distinct iteration of the genre that balances the raw, propulsive core of rock and roll’s foundational sound with the specific social and cultural nuances that shape life across the archipelago, a lineage that every new recording enters and extends when it is created. Every creator working within this space draws from a long, interconnected network of peers, predecessors, and local audiences that have shaped the genre’s trajectory in the country from its earliest adoption in the mid-20th century to the current moment, building a scene that is both diverse and deeply cohesive, bound by a shared love of rock and roll’s core power and a shared commitment to centering Filipino experiences in every work they produce.
