First Day Funk (Version 1)
About this Song
Rock and roll’s spread across Southeast Asia carved out a vibrant, sustained creative ecosystem in the Philippines, where iterations of the genre have long drawn from the core of the form’s rhythmic, boundary-pushing roots while weaving in the unique cultural context of the archipelago’s decades-long engagement with global popular music. This sound, titled First Day Funk (Version 1), sits within that long line of Filipino rock and roll output, anchoring itself to the genre’s foundational commitments while leaning into the specific lineage of homegrown rock and roll that has circulated across the Philippines’ local creative spaces for generations.
