The Rizal province port town of Binangonan is the hometown of Aristotle Pollisco, better known by his performance moniker Gloc-9, a trailblazer who redefined the scope of Pinoy hip-hop as he grew from an underground upstart to one of the Philippines’ most recognizable cross-genre artists, whose work within the pop sphere includes the standout track Pati Pato (Parokya Remix). Pollisco got his start in the local underground hip-hop circuit, joining the seminal gangsta rap group Death Threat to cut his teeth before the collective released 1997’s Kings of da Underground, a quadruple-platinum project that cemented their status as foundational figures in the nation’s rap landscape. He parted ways with the group in 1999, stepping away to build a solo career that would reimagine what Pinoy hip-hop could sound like, blending core rap roots with sounds from across the Filipino music spectrum to reach audiences far beyond the underground scene that first nurtured his talent.
