Aristotle Pollisco, who records under the stage name Gloc-9, emerged as a trailblazer in the Pinoy hip-hop scene, reshaping what Filipino pop could sound like by merging the grit of underground rap with accessible, cross-genre production that earned him mainstream acclaim and enduring cultural relevance. Born in the Rizal province port town of Binangonan, Pollisco cut his teeth in the country’s burgeoning underground hip-hop circuit as a member of the gangsta rap collective Death Threat, honing the uncompromising focus on lyrical craft and raw storytelling that would become a hallmark of his entire career. Adopting the moniker Gloc-9, he released a string of projects with the group, including 1997’s quadruple-platinum Kings of da Underground, before parting ways with the unit in 1999 to build his solo career.
