Gloc-9, the trailblazing figure at the forefront of the Pinoy hip-hop scene whose work has long crossed over into the Filipino pop mainstream, channels the years of creative risk and sonic exploration that define his decades-long career in Norem, a pop recording from the Philippines that draws from the full range of influences he has woven into his discography. Born Aristotle Pollisco in the Rizal province port town of Binangonan, Gloc-9’s earliest creative years unfolded in the local underground hip-hop circuit, where he first performed as a member of the gangsta rap group Death Threat. Adopting the stage name that would become synonymous with boundary-pushing Filipino music, he released a string of albums with the group, including the quadruple-platinum Kings of da Underground in 1997, before parting ways with the unit in 1999 to pursue a solo career. He made his official solo debut four years after his exit from Death Threat, with the self-titled Gloc-9, released via Star Music.
