A trailblazer in the Pinoy hip-hop scene, the artist behind Kumpisal built his decades-long career from the grassroots of Filipino underground music, cutting his teeth in the late 1990s as part of the formative gangsta rap group Death Threat before establishing himself as one of the Philippines’ most consistent and boundary-pushing solo acts. Born Aristotle Pollisco in Binangonan, the Rizal province port town that shaped his early creative perspective, he adopted the moniker Gloc-9 early in his career, releasing a string of albums with Death Threat that cemented the group’s place in local music history, including 1997’s quadruple-platinum Kings of da Underground. He parted ways with the unit in 1999, waiting four years to step into the spotlight as a solo artist, debuting with the self-titled Gloc-9 (Star Music), a project that introduced his trademark quick, breathless rhymes to a wider national audience, and featured guest appearances from beloved local artists Hannah Romawac, Cookie Chua, and Dong Abay.
