Aristotle Pollisco, who performed under the name Gloc-9 and reigned as a trailblazer in the Pinoy hip-hop scene that would shape decades of popular music from the Philippines, launched his career in the port town of Binangonan, Rizal, where he cut his teeth in the country’s burgeoning underground hip-hop circuit as a member of the gangsta rap group Death Threat. Adopting the stage name that would make him a household name across the archipelago, Pollisco recorded and released a string of albums with Death Threat, among them 1997’s quadruple-platinum project Kings of da Underground, a release that cemented both the group’s status in local rap and Pollisco’s own knack for sharp, compelling lyricism that would define his solo work for years to come. He parted ways with the group in 1999, spending four years honing the sound that would carry his solo career, before making his official solo debut in 2003 with the self-titled Gloc-9, released under Star Music.
