About this Song
Closer to Your Heart anchors itself to the decades-long legacy of R&B creation that has thrived across the Philippines, a genre that has evolved far beyond its initial transnational introduction to become a core pillar of the country’s mainstream and independent creative output. R&B as a form has long resonated deeply with Filipino audiences and creators alike, offering a flexible framework that can hold both the universal creative impulses that drive the genre globally and the specific cultural nuances that shape musical creation in the Philippine archipelago. Unlike niche forms that may only reach small, localized audiences, R&B has maintained a consistent, widespread presence across the country’s creative communities, welcoming new creators who bring their own perspectives to bear on the genre’s core traditions, reworking and expanding what R&B can be to fit their own creative visions without abandoning the throughlines that have made the form such an enduring force across global music.
