About this Song
R&B, as a genre that evolved from Black American sonic traditions to become a global language of love, loss, transition, and self-reflection, has been adapted and elevated by creative communities across the Philippines, where local creators have spent generations shaping the form to center the specific nuances of Filipino life, relationship, and identity. The form’s enduring cross-generational popularity across the archipelago stems from its inherent flexibility, able to hold both the quiet, intimate moments of personal change and the larger cultural shifts that shape how communities across the country’s many island regions connect to one another, and to art that mirrors their own lived experiences.
