The Filipino pop scene has long turned out work that resonates far beyond the archipelago’s borders, drawing on decades of local mainstream music evolution that has shaped how pop is created, distributed, and loved by audiences across Southeast Asia and the global Filipino diaspora. For years, acts hailing from regional creative hubs outside the capital have brought fresh energy to the country’s pop landscape, upending assumptions that all commercially successful Filipino pop originates in Manila, and building a pipeline for talent from smaller cities to reach national and then global audiences. One of the most prominent of these regional success stories, Cueshé, grew from a group of artists based in Cebu, one of the Philippines’ most vibrant creative centers, before relocating to Manila to expand their reach.
