While the "Other" categorization for genre and country might suggest an unclassifiable or international sound, Chris Brown's recording "Something In The Water" comes from an artist with a well-documented career in American R&B and hip-hop. Born Christopher Maurice Brown in Tappahannock, Virginia, on May 5, 1989, Brown signed with Jive Records at 15 in 2004. His self-titled debut album in 2005 launched with the chart-topping single "Run It!", making him the first male artist since 1995 to lead the Billboard Hot 100. That debut album sold 154,000 copies in its first week, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200, and was certified double Platinum by the end of 2006. His early work drew comparisons to Usher and Michael Jackson due to his vocal and dancing abilities. Brown's second album, *Exclusive* (2007), also found commercial success, featuring the number-one single "Kiss Kiss". Despite a felony assault conviction in 2009, his career continued with his fourth album, *F.A.M.E.
