Christopher Maurice Brown, an American singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor born in Tappahannock, Virginia, on May 5, 1989, signed with Jive Records in 2004 at the age of 15. His self-titled debut album, released in 2005, featured the chart-topping single "Run It!" featuring Juelz Santana. Produced by Scott Storch, who co-wrote the song with Sean Garrett and Juelz Santana, "Run It!" made Brown the first male artist since 1995 to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The single was released on June 30, 2005, and a remix later featured Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri. *Chris Brown* sold 154,000 copies in its first week, debuting at number 2 on the Billboard 200, and was certified double Platinum by the end of 2006. Brown's early work drew comparisons to artists like Usher and Michael Jackson due to his vocal and dancing abilities. His second album, *Exclusive* (2007), was commercially successful and included the Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "Kiss Kiss.
