About this Song
Air Tonight emerges from the dynamic, deeply interconnected ecosystem of R&B cultivated in the Philippines, a national creative scene that has spent decades refining its own distinct relationship to the genre, pulling from the core sonic and emotional foundations of R&B while infusing the specific cultural perspectives that shape creative expression across the archipelago. Unlike superficial iterations of the form that circulate widely across global media, every sound rooted in Filipino R&B carries the mark of a community that has long claimed R&B as its own, turning a genre that grew from specific Black American cultural contexts into a vessel for Filipino experiences, aspirations, and modes of connection that resonate as deeply locally as they do to diasporic communities around the world.
