About this Song
The spread of rock & roll across the Philippines transformed the genre from an import originating in mid-20th century American popular music into a distinctly Filipino creative form, adapted and reimagined by generations of creators who wove the genre’s core sonic and structural traits into the long, rich history of musical storytelling that defines cultural expression across the country’s 7,000+ islands. For decades, rock & roll has served as a foundational genre for Filipino creators, providing a flexible, dynamic framework that can hold the full range of human experience, from quiet personal reflection to loud, collective calls for connection, mirroring the versatility of the traditional folk sounds that have circulated among Philippine communities for centuries.
