Yovie & Nuno, the Indonesian pop band behind the enduring track Indah, Kuingat Dirimu, launched their career in 2001, built on the decades of industry and creative expertise of their founder Yovie Widianto, a multi-talented pianist, songwriter, and producer whose professional career stretches back to his time leading another seminal Indonesian group. Long before forming Yovie & Nuno, Yovie Widianto served as bandleader of Kahitna, the massively successful 1990s outfit that first established his reputation for sharp, accessible songcraft and thoughtful creative direction. When he first launched his new project, the group operated under the name Yovie & The Nuno, cultivating an early sound that blended buoyant pop sensibilities with the nuanced structure of jazz, a fusion that set them apart from many of their peers in Indonesia’s crowded early-2000s pop landscape.
