Yovie Widianto first established himself as a creative force in Indonesia's 1990s music landscape as the bandleader of Kahitna, a successful group that set the stage for the next chapter of his career when he founded his own pop project in 2001. That project, which would grow to become Yovie & Nuno, launched under the original name Yovie & The Nuno, with an early sound that wove pop and jazz influences together to create a distinct sonic identity that would evolve as the band grew. Over the course of the band's history, numerous lineup changes shaped its trajectory, with the first major shift leading to a formal name change in either late 2005 or 2007, when the group shortened its title from Yovie & The Nuno to Yovie & Nuno following the departure of original members Gail Satiawaki, Ersta, and Rere.
