Basic tracks and lead vocals for Cahaya were tracked by Ari Renaldi at ARU Studio in Bandung, Indonesia, with the same engineer handling mixing duties at the same Bandung space before the recording was sent to Sage Audio in Nashville, Tennessee, for mastering by Steve Corrao. The track, which appears on the album Monokrom, was officially released alongside its official lyric video on August 14, 2016, with the lyric video edited by Sandy Adriadi to complement the song’s launch. TULUS, who launched his professional music career in September 2011, wrote all of the lyrics for Cahaya, and co-created the track’s core notation alongside Ari Renaldi, who also served as the song’s primary producer and music arranger. Renaldi pulled double duty as an instrumentalist on the recording, handling both piano and drum parts, while additional instrumental contributors included Gugun Saladin on guitar, Rudy Zulkarnaen on contrabass, with TULUS adding his own backing vocals to the final track.
