About this Song
Shawn Mendes, a Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician, first gained recognition in 2013 by posting song covers on Vine, leading to his signing with Island Records in 2014. His debut EP arrived that same year, followed by his first studio album, *Handwritten*, in 2015. *Handwritten* notably debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, making him one of only five artists to achieve a number one debut before the age of 18. The album's single "Stitches" reached number one in the UK and the top 10 in both the US and Canada. Mendes’ second album, *Illuminate* (2016), also debuted at number one in the US. The singles from *Illuminate*, "Treat You Better" and "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back," both reached the top 10 in several countries. "Treat You Better," released on June 3, 2016, as the lead single from *Illuminate*, was co-written by Mendes, Teddy Geiger, and Scott Harris, with production credits going to Geiger, Dan Romer, and Daylight.
