Kahitna, an Indonesian pop music group from Bandung, formed on June 24, 1986, with Yovie Widianto as keyboardist. The band started their career performing as café bands and at festivals. In 1991, Kahitna won the world finals of the Yamaha Band Explosion in Japan with their ethnic fusion track "Lajeungan." The band's music is characterized by a fusion of traditional Indonesian melodies with contemporary pop beats, often incorporating elements of jazz, pop, fusion, Latin, and ethnic music. Yovie Widianto has composed almost all of Kahitna's songs, which primarily focus on themes of love. In the 1990s, Kahitna incorporated jazz and Latin elements into their sound. They gained popularity in the Indonesian music industry with their hit song "Cerita Cinta" and their debut album of the same name, released in 1994, which achieved platinum status.
