About this Song
To encounter a sound rooted in the Indonesian archipelago is to step into a current of creative expression that stretches across thousands of islands, each carrying distinct layers of cultural memory, communal practice, and artistic evolution that feed into the broader global landscape of what we gather under the umbrella of world music, a framework that seeks to center works that might otherwise be sidelined by the narrow, commercialized boundaries of mainstream global music industries that prioritize output from a small handful of dominant markets around the world.
