About this Song
Across Indonesia’s sprawling archipelago, creative practitioners who build their craft around sound develop their practice against a backdrop of thousands of years of diverse cultural expression, with hundreds of distinct communities across the nation’s islands each carrying their own unique musical lineages, shared performance traditions, and relationships to sound as a core part of communal life. These creators grow up immersed in a sonic landscape that blends longstanding local traditions with the constant flow of global digital media, connecting them to peers across the world while rooting their work in the specific cultural contexts that shape their daily experiences, leading many to reject rigid genre boundaries in favor of more fluid, experimental forms that can hold the full complexity of the sonic worlds they inhabit.
