The Indonesian rock band Dewa 19, formed in Surabaya, East Java, in 1986, is celebrated for its powerful yet melodic rock arrangements, which integrate keyboard layers with guitar riffs. Led by singer-songwriter Ahmad Dhani, the group blends rock, pop rock, soft rock, alternative rock, symphonic rock, hard rock, pop metal, and arena rock. The name Dewa is an acronym of the founding members' names: Dhani, Erwin, Wawan, and Andra, with "19" added to represent their average age when the band was officially established and working on their first album in 1991. The band has sold over 7 million albums in Indonesia and was included in *Rolling Stone Indonesia* magazine's list of "The Immortals: The 25 Greatest Indonesian Artists of All Time" in 2008. Dewa 19 disbanded in 2011 but regrouped in 2019 for reunion shows, later announcing that the band now features four vocalists: Ari Lasso, Once Mekel, Virzha, and Marcello Tahitoe. "Larut" exemplifies the band's dynamic sound.
