Dewa 19, an Indonesian rock band formed in Surabaya, East Java, in 1986, is led by singer-songwriter Ahmad Dhani, who also serves as the keyboardist and main songwriter. The band's name, Dewa, is an acronym of the founding members' names: Dhani, Erwin, Wawan, and Andra, with "19" added to represent the average age of the members when the band was officially established and when their first album was being worked on in 1991. The band's musical style is characterized by a blend of rock, pop rock, soft rock, alternative rock, symphonic rock, hard rock, pop metal, and arena rock, featuring powerful yet melodic rock arrangements that integrate keyboard layers with guitar riffs. Considered one of the greatest rock bands in the history of Indonesian popular music, Dewa 19 has sold over 7 million albums in Indonesia and was included in Rolling Stone Indonesia magazine's 2008 list of "The Immortals: The 25 Greatest Indonesian Artists of All Time.
