The Indonesian rock band Dewa 19, formed in Surabaya, East Java, in 1986, is led by singer-songwriter Ahmad Dhani. The band's musical style blends rock, pop rock, soft rock, alternative rock, symphonic rock, hard rock, pop metal, and arena rock, characterized by powerful yet melodic rock arrangements that integrate keyboard layers with guitar riffs. The band's name, Dewa, is an acronym of the founding members' names: Dhani, Erwin, Wawan, and Andra. The number "19" was added to represent the average age of the members when the band was officially established and when their first album was being worked on in 1991. Dewa 19 disbanded in 2011 but regrouped in 2019 for reunion shows, and in 2022, Ahmad Dhani stated that the band now has four vocalists: Ari Lasso, Once, Virzha, and Ello. "Dewi" is a recording by this acclaimed group, which has sold over 7 million albums in Indonesia and was included in Rolling Stone Indonesia magazine's list of "The Immortals: The 25 Greatest Indonesian Artists of All Time" in 2008.
