Born in Sidoarjo, East Java, in 2000, Joan Pasha Syahputra, who records under the name Tenxi, has built a defining body of work that merges foundational Indonesian sounds with global hip-hop sensibilities, rooted entirely in the creative ecosystems that have grown across his home country’s diverse regional music scenes. A rapper, songwriter, and record producer, Tenxi coined the term “Hipdut” to describe his signature fusion of hip-hop and dangdut, a sound that has earned him both critical acclaim and mainstream traction across Indonesia. His 2022 debut album, Bipolar, first introduced his distinct style to widespread audiences, and his 2025 sophomore effort, Puting Beliung, spent weeks in the top 10 on Spotify Indonesia, cementing his status as one of the country’s most compelling new musical voices.
