About this Song
Works that resist the standard genre labels that dominate mainstream music discourse often hold the most intimate, uncompromised connection to the specific contexts that birthed them, because they do not have to bend their identity to meet the expectations that come with being tagged as a specific, marketable style, do not have to align with the tropes or conventions that listeners have come to associate with any single category of sound, instead they get to unfold as they are, unshackled by the assumptions that come with prewritten genre boxes that were rarely built to hold the full breadth of creative expression emerging from every corner of the globe.
