About this Song
Silvy Kumalasari’s creative practice emerges from Indonesia’s sprawling, endlessly varied community of sound artists, a community that draws from millennia of interwoven cultural traditions, cross-island exchange, and contemporary experimental impulses to create work that resists the narrow categorizations often applied to creative output from global regions. That work, unbound by the expectations that come with fitting into a widely recognized genre, finds a home in the inclusive, expansive classification of Music/Other, a framework that prioritizes the existence of the sound itself over any attempt to box it into a pre-existing label that might not capture its unique core.
