About this Song
R&B’s evolution from a genre rooted in specific Black American cultural contexts to a global creative language that adapts to every regional scene that embraces it has created a sprawling, diverse landscape of work, with scenes across Southeast Asia emerging as some of the most vital and forward-thinking spaces for the genre’s contemporary evolution. Indonesia, in particular, has fostered an R&B community that balances reverence for the genre’s foundational focus on emotional transparency and sonic texture with a willingness to weave in local creative currents, resulting in a body of work that feels both intimately connected to the global R&B lineage and entirely distinct to the cultural and creative forces that shape art across the archipelago.
