About this Song
Dunia emerges as a sound rooted in the creative ecosystem of Indonesia, positioned within the expansive, context-rich genre of world music, a classification built to center sonic works that emerge from distinct regional cultural geographies across the globe, countering the homogenization of mainstream global sonic media that often prioritizes output from a small handful of dominant creative markets. World music as a category brings together a vast array of works tied to their places of origin, creating space for sounds that carry the nuances of their home communities’ creative lineages, even as they may intersect with broader global sonic currents in ways that resonate with listeners far beyond their country of creation.
