About this Song
For decades, creators across Indonesia’s thousands of inhabited islands have tested the limits of musical categorization, weaving together threads of regional creative traditions, global experimental movements, and locally specific sonic references to build a body of work that exists outside the narrow bounds of mainstream, pre-defined genre labels. This lineage of exploratory creation gave rise to the Music/Mix classification, a framework designed to center works that prioritize creative expression over marketability or generic convention, welcoming sounds that draw from multiple traditions, blend disparate sonic approaches, or challenge expectations of what a recorded piece of music can be.
