About this Song
R&B’s evolution from a distinctly African American musical form rooted in 20th century blues, soul, and jazz to a transnational creative language that artists across every inhabited continent adapt and reimagine to speak to their own lived experiences has been one of the most significant shifts in global popular music over the past three decades, and Kisah Tak Sempurna emerges from that expansive global ecosystem as a work rooted in Indonesia’s dynamic, interconnected R&B community. Indonesia’s creative music scene, long shaped by the country’s own millennia-long traditions of oral storytelling, communal performance, and cross-cultural exchange with neighboring Southeast Asian nations, as well as ongoing cultural flows that connect Indonesian creators to audiences, peers, and creative networks across the world, has nurtured a robust R&B community that contributes new layers of depth and complexity to the genre’s global identity.
