Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang
About this Song
World music as a genre emerged to counter the longstanding bias of mainstream music industry classification that sidelined regional, place-specific sonic works from across the globe, framing those works not as niche curiosities but as vital, complex creative expressions that carry the full weight of their originating cultural contexts. The category creates a shared space for works that draw on deep, intergenerational cultural traditions, prioritizing the authenticity of their roots over attempts to sand down their specificities to appeal to narrow mainstream Western audiences, a mission that has allowed countless communities to share their sonic heritage with global audiences that might otherwise never have the chance to engage with work from their regions.
