Niken Salindry, the lead creative force behind the sound Raiso Dadi Siji (feat. Kevin Ihza), practices within the vibrant, endlessly diverse community of creative sound makers based in Indonesia, a country whose musical output spans thousands of distinct cultural traditions, regional styles, and contemporary experimental forms that together make up one of the most richly varied creative soundscapes in the world. So much of this output resists the narrow, standardized genre labels that have been designed primarily to categorize Western mainstream and canonical recorded works, leading many creations from Indonesian artists to fall under the broad, inclusive grouping of Music/Other, a classification that exists specifically to hold space for works that cannot be neatly slotted into pre-existing, limited genre categories.
