About this Song
Across Indonesia’s sprawling archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, artists build their creative practice from centuries of interwoven cultural lineages, shaped by generations of communal ritual, cross-island exchange, and spiritual tradition that infuses every sound they craft. These creators carry forward sonic practices that have long been central to community life, used to mark harvests, weddings, spiritual gatherings, and other milestone moments that bind local groups together, while also reimagining those traditions to speak to their own experiences as 21st-century creators navigating both local cultural roots and global creative networks.
