About this Song
Selamat Datang Kekasih unfolds as a sound work rooted in the creative ecosystems of Indonesia, categorized within the broad, boundary-defying space of Music/Mix, a framework that frees the work from the limitations of prescriptive genre labels that might force it to align with a single stream of regional, national, or global musical tradition. Indonesia is a nation stitched together from more than 17,000 distinct islands, each home to its own centuries-long musical heritage, spanning oral traditions that stretch back millennia, cross-cultural exchanges that have woven in influences from neighboring Southeast Asian communities, South Asian trade routes, Middle Eastern mercantile networks, and global cultural flows that have shaped creative output across the archipelago for more than a century.
