"Story of My Life" is a Music/Other/Other recording from Indonesia by One Direction, the English-Irish pop boy band formed in London in 2010. The group's formation occurred during the 2010 season of the British singing competition show *The X Factor*, where original members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, who had all initially auditioned as solo artists, were grouped together to form the band. Guest judge Nicole Scherzinger and long-time judge Simon Cowell both claimed credit for the idea, with unseen 2022 footage from *The X Factor* confirming Scherzinger's significant role in selecting Horan first, followed by Styles, Tomlinson, Payne, and Malik. Harry Styles himself named the band One Direction, often abbreviated to 1D. After finishing third in the seventh series of *The X Factor* in 2010, One Direction signed a reported £2 million record deal with Syco Records through Simon Cowell and also signed with Columbia Records in North America.
