One Direction's "Don't Forget Where You Belong" is a pop recording from Indonesia by the English-Irish boy band that formed in London in 2010. The group's origin traces back to the 2010 season of the British singing competition *The X Factor*, where Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, all initially auditioning as solo artists, were grouped together. Both guest judge Nicole Scherzinger and long-time judge Simon Cowell claimed credit for conceiving the band, with unseen 2022 footage from *The X Factor* confirming Scherzinger's pivotal role in their formation. Harry Styles coined the band's name, One Direction, often abbreviated to 1D. After finishing third in the seventh series of *The X Factor*, One Direction signed a reported £2 million record deal with Syco Records and later with Columbia Records in North America.
