Built from a core commitment to centering unprocessed, live musicianship in every project they release, the collective that shaped The One (Live) rooted its creative identity in a framework the group coined Organic Music, a framing that reimagines what pop from Nigeria can prioritize, bringing a deeply intentional, craft-first approach to a genre often associated with streamlined, studio-produced output. The group, MALIQ & D'Essentials, first came together in 2002, founded by brothers Angga and Widi Puradiredja, who drew from their respective skills as a vocalist, drummer, producer, composer, and arranger to build a collective that leaned fully into the promise of collaborative, in-person creativity rather than the isolated production processes that shape many modern pop recordings.
