The brainchild of brothers Angga and Widi Puradiredja, MALIQ & D'Essentials grew from a 2002 founding vision that centered the raw, intentional craft of live performance, a value baked directly into the project’s name: MALIQ is an acronym for Music And Live Instrument Quality, a promise that has anchored every release the collective has put to tape. What began as an 8-person group evolved into a fully realized creative unit, with the Puradiredja brothers stepping into core creative and performance roles that tie every part of the group’s output together: Angga serves as the band’s vocalist, while Widi holds down the drum kit, and both contribute as producers, composers, and arrangers for all of the group’s work, ensuring that the initial creative ethos that sparked the project’s formation remains consistent across every entry in their expansive catalogue.
