The band's name, derived from the Japanese word "niji" (虹) meaning "rainbow," reflects their diverse sound, which is categorized under the alternative pop genre with influences from bands like Coldplay and The Killers. Nidji's music is characterized by catchy melodies, intense guitar riffs, and relatable lyrics, often described as anthemic, inspiring, and uplifting. Their debut album, *Breakthru'*, released in 2005, sold over 300,000 copies and earned a double platinum award. The band's songs, such as "Heaven" and "Shadows," have been featured in Southeast Asian promos for the television series *Heroes*, and their track "Laskar Pelangi" became an iconic anthem for the Indonesian film of the same name. In 2012, Manchester United adopted their song "Liberty Victory" as a new anthem.
