Four Indonesian creative voices come together to shape Putar Putar, a sound that brings together distinct perspectives from a community of creators working across the country’s vast and diverse musical landscape. Ndarboy Genk, Jacson Zeran, Wita Sofi, and Mabes Balker pool their individual artistic practices to craft this work, uniting their respective takes on what sound can be, rather than leaning into pre-existing, widely codified genre frameworks that often box creative expression into narrow, familiar categories. The grouping of these four creators for this project marks a deliberate coming-together of artists who each bring their own relationship to the act of making sound, turning a shared vision into a cohesive piece that defies easy categorization, reflected in its placement within the broad, boundary-pushing space of Music/Other, a category reserved for works that don’t align with the conventional silos that structure most mainstream music classification.
